2008 E60 M5

There were no major upgrades done on the E60 M5 in 2008. BMW revitalized the car’s exterior and interior, slightly upgraded its horsepower and installed a new 7 speed sequential manual gearbox that comes in a single base trim. This includes a new front air dam, a more pronounced center air intake, reshaped brake and air inlets and new optical lenses for its headlights and tail lights. The vehicle has now evolved into a classic design.

With an impressive 5.0 L, 500 hp V10 engine, its gas mileage comes out to 12 mpg in the city and 18 on the highway.  The base trim consists of 4 doors and can seat 5 passengers. In addition, it features standard sunroof, air conditioning, power windows, power door locks, power/leather seats, CD player, navigation system, ABS brakes, stability control, and traction control.

While all other E60’s adaptive cruise control have also been enhanced, the M5’s was not offered with this option. All other E60 5 series cars now includes a stop-and-go traffic program. Some car experts think that all these technological features do not make the car driver friendly. And the Lane Change notification option was not offered for the E60 M5 either.

Because of its thirsty engine, the E60 M5 has two fuel pumps. Under normal driving conditions, the car utilizes only one of the pumps. Once the beast comes alive and the first pump reaches two thirds of its maximum output, the second pump is switched on. This feature provides for optimum gas mileage for the maximum possible output.

In 2008, the S85B50 engine of the E60 M5 again won the Best Above 4.0 Liter category in the International Engine of the Year Awards. This means that the vehicle has truly reached the apex in performance from a sedan. Reviews from car owners continue to rave about the car’s interior and exterior looks, performance, acceleration, brake, handling, comfort and others.

It is touted to be a comfortable, fast, sure footed and playful car. Ride an E60 M5 and one will be confronted with a comfortable and luxurious leather seats. Look around and one will see that the dash board materials are of the best quality while the layout is classy and sensitive. The iDrive is actually the key to this simplicity and efficiency, once you get the hang of it.

Grip is also high on the list for this vehicle. In dry or wet roads, the front end is reassuring and the simple one-stage traction control can be knocked off. The brakes are perfectly fine for road use and offer a strong feedback that instigates confidence. This is one sedan that is really fun to drive.
